Environmental awareness is becoming more and more important in today’s society. Smartphones, as well as other types of electronics, are responsible for a high amount of toxins that are released into the air. When these electronic devices are thrown away irresponsibly, all chemicals that were used to create them are released back into the air, ground and water. In order to help prevent the irresponsible disposal of their devices, Apple introduced Apple Renew.
So, what is Apple Renew? It’s a program that was launched earlier this year, in March 2016 to be more specific, to help customers dispose of their old, unwanted devices in return for a small payment. If you have an old iMac that is just sitting around at home unused, you can throw it away in an environmentally friendly way and be rewarded doing so. You will receive an Apple gift card for your returns, so you can purchase more of their products.
According to LifeHacker, Apple offers the following rewards for iPhones:
iPhone 4: $50 Apple gift card for 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models
iPhone 4s: $50 Apple gift card for 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models
iPhone 5: $100 Apple gift card for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models
iPhone 5c: $100 Apple gift card for 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB models
iPhone 5s: $150 Apple gift card for 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models
iPhone 6: $250 Apple gift card for 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models
iPhone 6 Plus: $300 Apple gift card for 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models
Rewards for iMacs and MacBooks vary, depending on its quality, of course.
So how does it work? Well, you can start off here: https://appleonlineuk.mpxltd.co.uk/
You have to enter your device’s IMEI/Serial number, which can be found within your device’s settings, and inform the website of your smartphone or Mac’s current condition. Afterwards, Apple will provide you with an estimated value.
Once you’ve accepted the price, you will have to hand it in at your local Apple store. However, be careful! We advise you to call your local store first to see if they take in your device.
Finally, within a few hours, you should receive your online gift card in your email, which can be used in a physical Apple store or in their online store.
The concept of Apple Renew is great, but being that it is still a new program, there are a lot of kinks to work out. In order to receive your card, Apple provides specific steps to follow, but their policies don’t seem to apply to all of their Apple stores just yet. Nonetheless, it’s much better to dispose of your device in an environmentally friendly way and receive a reward for it, rather than seeing it go to waste.
