We found the cheapest smartphone in the world: the Freedom 251. This phone costs a total of 3 Euros. Don’t believe us? Keep reading and let us know what you think! If you’re in need of a cheap phone to go on vacation with and don’t care about losing, you’ve just found the perfect device.
Looks like a cheaper iPhone, doesn’t it? That’s the best part!
The Indian company Ringing Bells began to market this phone starting late June as the cheapest phone in the world, which could be bought at only 3 Euros. Ringing Bells was already known as a budget smartphone company with previous offerings of a 50 Euro 4G smartphone.
The Freedom 251 has a 4-inch display (540x960 pixels), a quad-core SoC clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 1GB of RAM, support for two SIM cards, a 3.2-megapixel camera at back and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. It holds a 1450mAh battery and you can store up to 8 GB of files in it.
While it does seem somewhat underwhelming according to today’s standards, it’s absolutely worth the price.
The company is obviously aiming to slash prices to allow everyone in emerging markets to have easier access to the internet. Mohit Goel has actually claimed that his company is currently in a deficit and will definitely lose money for each smartphone sold, but the Indian government is willing to back the company and help finance the launch of its future smartphones!
