Presenting the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus!

On April 6, Huawei introduced its 2016 flagship phone, the Huawei P9, along with a larger variation, the Huawei P9 Plus. The device features a dual camera, a sleek metallic design and is sized has a 5.2-inch screen. We’ll break down the phone’s specifications and then detail its expected release date as well pricing.

The device has a metal unibody design, which is similar to their previous designs. Huawei was one of the first manufacturers to apply an aluminum exterior to their phones, essentially giving a premium feel to their phones.

On the right side of the P9, you’ll find the standard volume and power buttons. These buttons have a different texture so you can locate the buttons easier. On the left side of the phone there is a Nano-SIM card slot as well as a micro SD card slot for additional storage. Huawei has adopted the newer and more reliable USB port Type C for faster charging and has implemented the usual 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The P9 weighs a total of 144 grams, similar to the iPhone 6S, and has dimensions of 145 x 70.9 x 7 mm. The phone has a similar appearance to last year’s generation with the exception of a brand new fingerprint sensor located on the back of the phone, below the camera.

Huawei, as other brands this year, believes in the expression "good things come in small packages" and has chosen to reduce the screen size to 5.2 inches. The resolution is the same as in previous versions of the brand, 1920x1080 pixels.

Huawei has maintained the P8’s screen size at 5.2 inches as well as its screen resolution at 1920x1080 pixels. In addition, the company is once again using Android’s infamous on-screen buttons instead of physical buttons, so the phone’s screen extends to the bottom of the phone, only leaving room for a sleek “Huawei” font.

The Huawei P9 and P9 Plus’s camera is arguably one of the most prominent and anticipated features of the new model. The phone has two cameras, with a resolution of 12 MP and an aperture of f/2.2 and an optical stabilizer. The front camera has a high resolution of 8 MP and an aperture of f/2.4.

Each camera plays a specific role, being that one contains an RGB sensor and captures all colour, while the other is simply for black and white colours. Separating these aspects of the camera results in a greater amount of light and contrast being taken in the photos. In addition, the use of two cameras will create more depth to your photos, allowing your pictures to focus more on the main object. Once the photo is taken, you will be able to blur or sharpen parts of the photo using the phone’s picture editor.

Huawei designed a great phone in the Nexus 6P with an outstanding camera, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus have some of the best cameras out of all Android phones.
