.Apple is coming out with a new iPhone 2018 model in September and along with the usual hype focused around the design and specs of the new flagship phone and friends, there is a lot of speculation around the name of the new model. You might think that the iPhone X (pronounced as iPhone 10) will be followed by the iPhone 11 but if we’ve learned anything in the last few years, its that Apple is anything but predictable. Here is our list of potential names for the new iPhone 2018 model.
No long ago in 2017, we saw a new design from Apple that was quite a departure from the iPhone 8. No physical buttons on the front of the device, a lot more screen, and the now 'iconic' notch. Perhaps this is why Apple decided to skip the number nine altogether, to emphasize the breakthrough of this new design by naming it the iPhone X (or 10). Knowing what we know about the new 2018 iPhone models to come this year – be sure to read of post about the iPhone 2018 specs and rumors – we can safely say there is not likely to be any major design changes. But what will the name be? Let’s try to figure out.
Without getting too specific on the technical details of the iPhone 2018 model, which you can find in another post, it’s important to take stock of what we know about the iPhone 2018 at the moment of writing this.
Apple typically unveils its new phones in Fall so you can expect the new iPhone 2018 models to be announced and released in September 2018. The exact dates they are available for purchase are not immediately known but you can rest assured it will not be too long after the announcement event.
Granted that this is still speculative, considering that Apple has not officially confirmed three models. However, some leaked schematics and renders have given the Apple/iPhone community some serious hints that there were be three iPhones ranging in size from 6.5-inches (16.5cm), 6.1-inches (15.5cm), and 5.8-inches (14.73cm). We also know that one of the new iPhones (the 6.1-inch) will have an LCD display rather than an OLED display making it a lower cost option. Therefore, Apple may be giving us a low-, mid-, and high-range selection of devices.
Last year saw the most expensive iPhone ever. The iPhone X initially launched with a price tag of $999. A lot of Apple fans may have experienced sticker-shock with the new flagship.
Looking at the prices and sales numbers from March 2018 quarter, it appears that indeed consumers weren’t quite ready to pay up to $400 more for a phone with features not so radically different to the previous model.
This higher price tag is another reason why you should do as much as possible to protect your iPhone. Fortunately, we don’t only write articles, we also make it possible for you to design your own custom iPhone X case. iPhone X’s are cool but one with a cracked screen is not. Protect your phone today by creating a custom phone case using photos and designs of your choosing.
When thinking about the previous iPhone model names, the jump from iPhone 8 to iPhone X (10) seems very random. What did nine do to be passed over? Is it a secret unlucky number for Apple? Is there no 9th floor at Apple’s offices due to its unluckiness?
If you look closely you’ll notice that the first iPhone was released in 2007, making 2017 the 10 year anniversary of the iPhone. Que “a-ha” moment. It still feels like Apple discovered this late as if some intern mentioned the 10th year of the iPhone in passing some time in early-2017 and his manager took all the credit.
There is no shortage of suspected name for the iPhone 2018. Here are a few floating around the internet.
Assuming that the iPhone X was an exception due to the 10th year of the iPhone, perhaps iPhone will continue on with the iPhone 9 and 9 plus. The iPhone was set apart from its peers with the X instead of a number, but is Apple really crazy enough to confuse customers with the iPhone 8, iPhone X, and then the iPhone 9? Perhaps there could be enough of a design change that the iPhone X was purely a special edition. Not likely.
On the other hand, Apple could use this opportunity to reinvent the naming structure for its phones. Meaning that the 2018 iPhone models could be called the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Plus. The lower cost phone could become the iPhone 11C or SE.
Perhaps Apple is just waiting for consumers to name the phone themselves. Apple will choose the name with the highest search results. I say we write more articles about the "iPhoney MciPhone-face Plus." Let’s make this happen!
There are some good arguments for some names but the real answer will come on September 12th. Regardless, you can rest assured that very soon after the launch of the iPhone 2018 we will have phone case for you to customize.

Calling it iPhone 9 would be too confusing. I'm sure they will go with iPhone 11!
I don't really care about the name as long as it's not gonna cost me more than the last one
How about the iPhone $950 or the iPhone $1,200? haha
Tbh I'd love if they just started to name them after the release year. That would be so much easier!
It would indeed be easier but it would look so ugly. They have done it with a few iPad models. I for one am not a fan. It doesn't look so nice on our website.
It would be easier but I don't think it looks as nice. They did it with a few iPad models.
I think they will call it iPhone 11. Everything else doesn't make sense for me
When has Apple ever made sense? :P
