The world’s biggest and best companies make their mark by creating innovative and never-before-seen products. Samsung is no different. As one of the biggest smartphone producers in the world, Samsung is attempting to create new goods and they are taking a step further by trying to create the first foldable smartphone. This foldable mobile phone isn’t like one of the classical flip phones that we’re so accustomed to, but instead a fully fledged smartphone with a bendable and foldable screen. Samsung is trying to revolutionize the product market the same way that the original iPhone and classical Nokia phones did in their time.
According to rumours, the main feature of this smartphone would be to have a foldable screen, similar to that of a wallet. Samsung already previewed an incredibly thin and bendable TV screen last year and is now implementing that technology into one of our most important possessions: out smartphone.
The company’s main objective is to beat out Apple, in terms of innovation, especially because Apple is viewed as the market’s leader in technological innovation. Samsung has designed the screen to make it transparent, so it is possible to act as a window or even a mirror.
It is assumed that the phone will be the same size as a standard 2016 smartphone when folded together, at 5 inches, and turns into a phablet when unfolded, measuring at 7 inches. This makes the device convenient for on the go use, so users will no longer have to bring alone big and bulky tablets.
Samsung will reportedly offer its foldable smartphone with two different processors. One version will be packed with a Snapdragon 620 and will have 3 GB of RAM. The higher end version will have a Snapdragon 820 processor and also have 3 GB of RAM. Both devices are reported to be able to have an extra SD card slot in case there is not enough space on the device.
According to rumours, the device should hit the market at the end of this year. Based on a report from Business Insider, we can expect the phone to arrive in the second half of 2016, essentially spanning from June until December. However, the exact release date is still somewhat uncertain, so we’re eagerly waiting for an official announcement from Samsung!
